31mm V1 – kickstart a book of observational phone photography

31mm V1 kickstarter

Through our daily #MPNselects Instagram curation we’ve been told about the launch of a new Kickstarter campaign for 31mm V1 – a new book featuring exceptional observational mobile photography from around the world.  The project is being led by Owen Dodd, a Brooklyn based designer and photographer.

Dodd’s curatorial and design skills shine through in the example provided from the book, it’s arguably the most professional and modern compilation of mobile photography we’ve seen in print – ever.

Here’s what Dodd has to say about the book project:

The growth of the internet and social media has allowed for the emergence of new global communities that could have never before existed. Recently I discovered one of these communities, a group of talented photographers taking pictures on their phones and sharing them online. Instead of documenting autobiographical events, their photos focused on aesthetic details and abstraction.

I reached out to a select group of people whose work I have a great deal of respect for, hoping that a handful of them would be interested in sharing their work in a more permanent medium. After receiving an overwhelmingly positive response from every person I contacted, we decided to make a book together and I began the process of curation and design.

The project is already half funded with books starting at a very reasonable US $35.  We can’t wait to get our hands on the print copy.  Here are a few of the photographs/photographers featured in the first volume.
